Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 12, 2009 7:43 am Hi All,
About 3-4 weeks ago I poured a concrete footing for a new cement block wall in the backyard. The footing is 450mm wide and 250mm deep. There is a step down in the footing about half way. We have since decided that we want to put a pier in the moddle but for it to look right, we will need to extend the upper footing another 200mm. Is it possible to drill into the footing and insert 12mm rod and then pour more concrete to extend the footing? Will there be any issues later on with movement or sinking, causing the pier to crack or move? This is how I was thinking of extending it.. Is this a common practice when things like this happen? Please note I am not an expert and would suggest you talk to someone who really does know.
How high is your retaining wall? With a footing only 250mm deep it wouldn't want to be more than 2 courses of 200x400 blocks... Re: Retaining Wall Footing - Extension 3Mar 12, 2009 1:58 pm It will be 4 courses high with piers that are 5 courses.
Its not actually retaining anything, as it will be built in front of an existing retaining wall which we don't like the look of. There will be a 100mm gap between the walls which will have ag pipe at the bottom and gravel almost to the top. there is a standard besser block wall pdf somewhere online with footing sizes, also have a look at dincel. 1 2930 Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 18325 yep sounds good make the footing bigger to to allow for the pipe in the middle 3 7331 |
