Looking at creating a kids play area in the backyard and wondering what is better/safer to use for the edging Red Gum or Treated Pine sleepers? I know Treated Pine obviously has some nasties in it - but can you paint/stain it so they don't leech out?? Thanks. It's a chemical process and once the treatment has cured (takes 3-6 wks after processing) you cannot release the CCA until the timber is burned.
I would go for treated pine. It's a plantation timber so is better for the environment (renewal resource), and it lasts a lot longer than the hardwood you're thinking about.
