Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Mar 11, 2009 12:24 pm Hi all,
I have a "half dead" lilly pilly at my backyard. It is around 8-10m at the moment. I have got council approval to remove it but it need to be replaced by another lily pilly species that will be at least 8m at maturity. I also need to plant one with a 100 litre pot size! There are a lot of varieties of lilly pilly. Can anyone suggest a species that would be suitable for the location? Also, where can I find one with such large pot size 100 litre!! I have no idea about the cost but hope it won't cost a fortune. Your help is much appreciated!!! This picture shows the "half dead" tree location. Not easy either. There are many plants commonly sold or described as lilly pillys. Waterhousea, Acmena and Syzigium are some of the most common. Try planting Acmena Smithii or Syzgium Australe. The australe's grow between 3-8metres and the Smithii are about the same. Don't go for hybridised versions of those plants. Re: Please help me select a lilly pilly 3Mar 12, 2009 8:06 am Council's condition is to plant a syzygium species. The current one is Syzygium oleosum. I am considering just to replant the same species. May be there is a better and more suitable one???
I will check out Syzygium australe, hope I can find some from local nursery. I is hard to see how the overall look from images from the web as they tend to show close up on leaves, flowers and fruits Oh, btw, thanks for your suggestions! I'm not sure of the species, but it drops it's blossoms, white fluffy stuff everywhere! Then the fruit comes, and drops everywhere. Mushy purple stains everywhere! Don't plant near house! One good point, it's a really fantastic shade tree, and for my yard, drops temperature underneath significantly in summer. I've just had it pruned back as you had to duck under in places. Just my opinion from one who knows! Fingers crossed it will look OK 😀 2 7079 i had the my concreters concrete right up to the fence. I have pits all along my path, so the water tends to drain away from the house and into the pits.
