I have finally decided on a backyard design. Only been in our house 1yr. Thought i would share my ideas with the crew. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ What does everyone think?? Need to source some bricks cheap, to start the build - need approx 800 fastwall bricks. I guess this one will take quite a few weekends to complete . I am a landscape designer and would just like to make a few suggestions. Firstly the left side wall it a bit too intrustive on the overall aesthetics of your garden. i would suggest softening that wall. You obviously like the architectural appearance so in keeping with this i would either grow creepers along steel threads in a nice pattern, like a cross hatching style. It looks like your spikey plants are a cycad or the like, to match this i would go with star jasmine creeper. Or, an even better idea would be a topairy hedge along that wall. Camelias would suit this effect. I would keep the camelia hedge very hard up against the wall and train the branches like arms along the wall so the wall it not blocked out, just softened. I would also suggest a very low groundcover in the left side garden beds to create a soft mat of foliage that will add another layer of interest to the design without intruding on the 'space' and open style layout of your garden. Something like mini mondo grass, native violets or ajuga would look great. All in all a great design. Good luck with the construction. Re: Backyard Design 9Mar 27, 2009 8:47 pm Thanks for your input guys - my water feature is now turned into a fish pond . getting hooked on koi and goldfish Most of the left side will now be built with limestone blocks - for strength as a few people were concerned regarding the pond and water pressure. My pond will be about 600mm - 800mm deep depending how much i feel like digging on the day. Hopefully starting the pond prep this weekend. Peacful Landscapes - the jasmine was exactly what i had in mine to add some nice green folaige along the wall on the left side "must be a mind reader". Unfortunatley my sketchup skills aren't the best so i didn't include much planting details. More focusing on the hardscape. I will keep you all upto date with the construction as it happens. Unfortunately as my desires are bigger than my wallet it wont be progressing super fast -but the end result will be true to my design.
