Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Feb 12, 2009 8:52 am We're starting on our front garden (a year after we finished our house ) and I'm looking for front fence ideas. Can't find anything anywhere that I like, so if anyone can post any photos of very contemporary fences I'd be very grateful. Thanks

I suggest a low fully rendered brick/block wall in a tonal variation of the grey of your house. To complete the look perhapsa "Japanese rock garden" look in the front yard. Here's a model of a "zen garden": Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Do the hard jobs first. Lots of conventional styles, but you need something quite modern IMO. Good luck with this, it's going to be tricky. This is all I could find, that was a little bit different. But somehow not quite the thing. But if it's just for a boundary, what about doing that with plants, something creative otherwise a straight line of something eye catching. I know some of the builder's websites are good for inspiration eg. Simonds or M$tr1con. Good luck Re: Contemporary front fence ideas 6Feb 12, 2009 5:29 pm There is some gorgeous new modern homes near us that have a great modern fence, but again would only work if you didn't need the fence for a purpose of keeping kids/dogs inside.
It is sort of timber posts with metal wiring/rope horizontal in between - I can take a picture if you like? My karma ran over your dogma Re: Contemporary front fence ideas 8Feb 13, 2009 12:39 pm Hi mek,
Slightly off topic, but can I ask if you have the sided bagged(not rendered). I can see an outline of the brickwork. Reason I ask, is that i'm thinking of doing the same, and wondering if you were happy with that outcome. Re: Contemporary front fence ideas 9Feb 13, 2009 6:47 pm To sort the poo from the shovel here we should be asking some questions
How high do you want the fence? Is security a concern? Is privacy a concern? Is the fence to enhance the appeal of the home only? Does the fence need to help block road noise? Will the fence need to retain any soil behind one of the sides? Is the the fence needing to be decorative? Do you want a combination of masonry, metal and or timber? Will children/animals (same thing really ) need to be a concern? ie do you which to contain them? You may not want people to be able to put their hands through. Will you need an automatic gate to slide across the drive for vehicle access? Do you wish to incorporate an intercom? yadda yadda I think you get what I mean. Have a think and come up with your requirements, then we can all start googling and get some image grabs and ideas. This is pretty trendy! 10Feb 13, 2009 8:07 pm C&G -------------------------------- A new building chapter begins.. Re: Contemporary front fence ideas 12Feb 19, 2009 4:16 pm Thanks everyone for ideas. I'm still undecided though. Don't need the fence for anything else but to to compliment our house. No timber (unless it's painted grey ). No need for privacy, security, no car gates, etc.
I think I favour just a plain rendered wall. How boring. Re: Contemporary front fence ideas 13Feb 19, 2009 4:48 pm mek Don't need the fence for anything else but to to compliment our house. Also.. just wondering what color your render is? It looks great! Yes, the sides are not rendered, other things came first moneywise, so will do it when the wallet is a bit thicker. And no, I am not happy with it but there's not much I can do about it . erinleigh, our render colours are Teahouse (the darkest grey) , Endless Dusk (medium) and Tranquil Retreat (light grey), all by Dulux.
