It is water and fertiliser wise. it offers significant maintenance cost reductions on mowing and fertiliser. Reading through some threads, I can't seem to determine which type of grass you prefer Stevep79 & Principessa Finished building Wisdom Homes Impression 33mkII in The Ponds, Sydney http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com Re: turf costs 5Feb 08, 2009 9:06 am Recently I just laid 350m2 Empire Zoysia , it is very nice and cost $4 per m2 incuded laid, but not site preparation. Re: turf costs 11Feb 15, 2009 4:24 pm I can't speak highly enough of the Sir Walter Buffalo.
When I first moved in, we had no fences and no money. Our neighbour gave us some ST?? (which was a buffalo variety) to cover near our back door I then went and did most of my lawn with Sir Walter except where the fence and retaining walls were going. The Sir walter was lush and green all year and kept the weeds out. (some weeds still try but get on top, and they aren't hard to remove. maybe one weed a month). The St was weed riddled every week. very sparse and patchy. They both grew on minimal underlay and a clay base. The biggest prob with sir walter is mowing. it needs to be mown at least weekly in summer and every 6 weeks in winter. If its mown regular and short, it grows thickly and low. If left to long between mows, it grows up and thin. Cost is $7 per meter. Re: turf costs 14Mar 05, 2009 8:36 am Im in South East Queensland, when is it too late to lay turf.
I was thinking of getting a buffalo grass variety (which ever one is cheapest) as I believe it stands the best chance of survival when planting late. Also anyone in near Ipswich found a place that supplies a reasonably priced buffalo grass species. Re: turf costs 15Mar 05, 2009 5:41 pm Not sure what you mean by late planting?
We plant/ lay turf all year round and have a reverse wet and dry season pretty much to the North. It gets cold and wet and very hot and dry and the turf takes fine all year. That price is fantastic and the turf seems to get thumbs up everywhere... Does anybody know of any turf farms in QLD - Sunshine Coast, that would be worthwhile hunting down for a good price on Empire Zoysia???? Thanks... Re: 19Apr 19, 2009 10:30 pm stu Just an update, I managed to score Palmetto for $7 m SQ on e-bay. Fu, this may sound like a stupid question, but, do you compact the soil before or after you lay the turf Yes but don't go mad. Just do a couple of laps to firm it up so when you lay it your foot steps don't push into the turf and soil to much. Otherwise it will look terrible especially after the first few mows. Top dressing is then required to rectify it. Once the turf is down, again, do a few laps with a plate compactor and it will look excellent. Lots of seasol and water for the next month, then a mow. Then crack a beer and sit back and admire ya handy work They using concrete or timber sleepers? Timber or steel uprights? Any drainage behind sleeper? 3 5892 I am not sure whether Perth has its own way of doing things in regards to this.
