Hi there!
We have 7 Magnolia Little Gems in our front yard...they are planted in a garden bed that has one of those ripple iron fences behind. The property faces east/west so they get the sun up until about 4pm.
My problem is the leaves get scorched quite easily. Many of them just turn black after a hottish day an it makes the trees a bit of an eyesore. I can't figure it out because I have seen some Little Gems in totally exposed areas that seem to be thriving.
Could it be the reflective heat from the fence? Would draping shade cloth over them on hot days do any good?
They are about 4 years old and other than this problem with the heat, are reasonably healthy.
Any advice appreciated!
