Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 26, 2009 9:50 am Hi guys,
Firstly a quick introduction... I'm a 30yr old who has never planted a plant, mowed a lawn or picked up a shovel in his life! It's come time to renovate or backyard and I'd like some advice if possible! Attached is a pic I've designed of what I'd like to achieve... essentially it's the following: - 10sqm decking - 7sqm of sythetic turf - 2m high x 3.3m long 90mm decking screen at the far end of the garden - 1m wide decking gate with latch next to screen - seat/storage box with planter boxes either side - 1x3m path using pavers - bamboo screening along the side fences Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ It's a pretty simple design. I'm in the process of getting a few quotes to complete the job by landscapers - one quote we've had has been around the $11K mark! I was wondering - is it better to get one mob to do all of this or get individual contractors, i,e one for the decking/screen/storage box, one to lay the turf, one to lay the pavers etc? Would love some advice! Thanx Re: Newbie Needs Help on Landscaping Advice 2Jan 26, 2009 4:11 pm Croops all i know is how to pull a weed out n plant a plant your not alone ohh yeah have mowed lawn
Would love to do my landscaping myself but unfortunately have to get a landscaper. if the landscaper ends up doing the whole project you might be able to negotiate a better deal in regards to costs ,compared to getting individual contractors to do it. Your design looks great Goodluck ps what software did you use to design it? Re: Newbie Needs Help on Landscaping Advice 3Jan 27, 2009 7:48 am Interesting - I would have thought that negotiating individual prices with each of the contractors would have saved me money!
Oh and thanx for the comments about my design! I couldn't find any decent landscaping software for OSX so I just designed it myself in Illustrator. Re: Newbie Needs Help on Landscaping Advice 4Jan 27, 2009 10:09 am I would be inclined to organise each contractor myself. you seem to know what you want.
Paying one mob would be less hassle but come at a cost. You just need to decide what way to go from that. Davinci is the best bloke to answer this as he creates this stuff for a living at a very high standard. Organising individual contractors will give you the luxury of doing it as money become available. 11k is a good price indeed! Also depending on where you live, get in touch with your states landscape association first to find reputable companies and contractors. There are too many cowboys and for the uninitiated how are you to know the difference? a building inspector should be able to tell you about any major problems but we need a floor plan with dimensions to clarify options for extra bedrooms ... sometime an… 1 8718 Hmmm, I have checked your past posts and it seems that you are in NSW, not WA as I had thought. It pays to show your State in your avatar. Retaining wall regulations… 5 7850 Hi, you've probably already resolved this, however, Commbank will probably pay the funds to you after you send evidence the work is done regardless the change in the quotes. 1 35320 |
