We are a long way off landscaping, but I like to get ideas to kick around. We are having a circular drive (20m wide) and I am planning on a raised bed in the centre, with a statue about 1m high in it. Also would like a feature tree over the statue, am thinking a bay tree or one of those magnolia grandifloras. We are in a frost area, & on tank water (no loose leaves, pls). Also thinking of crushed sandstone for the drive (need to keep the dust down). Suggestions, pls. Thanks, in advance Re: Feature Tree - Circular Drive 4Jan 21, 2009 9:37 pm Manchurian Pear
Your delemer will be the "not drop leaves" bit. Most people say I don't want leaves dropping so I want an evergreen tree. Well the bad news is the the difference between evergreen trees and deciduous trees is that deciduous trees shed leaves just once a year. evergreen trees still need to shed leaves but they do it all year long. One or two at a time meaning you will have mess all year, not just once a year for 3 weeks or so That's why a Manchurian Pear would be lush and stately. The jap maple will look nice to but will be lower. Both close to each other would look amazing Re: Feature Tree - Circular Drive 5Jan 21, 2009 9:41 pm Thanks FM. Do like the manchurian pear.
Only reason I prefer evergreen is that as we are on tank water, the less leaves that can blow on the roof catchment area, the better. That's why I'd liked a bay tree, plus if I ever take up cooking...... We on the other hand are having a grove of frangipanis - we are up to around 40 trees so far dotted everywhere around the property plus our business waiting for the home to be built then they can finally be planted. Some things are worth waiting for. Hi , I'm currently going through this now within the Whitehorse council which has a similar set of restrictions.
