Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 13, 2009 7:23 pm My council insists that we supply a professional landscape plan from a landscape architect/designer to go along with our DA. My builder referred me to one today and I will be calling a few others for quotes. How much do you think we would be expected to pay for the design (not the landscaping just the design)? Also if anyone can recommend me one in Sydney that would be great! I'm on the lower north shore.
Thanks! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 2Jan 13, 2009 11:19 pm An excellent place to start looking. In fact the only place your searches should start at

Does it have to be professional? We did our own and I think it looks fairly professional (Blacktown Council didn't object) http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee276/amanda_simple_savings/Landscapeplan-upper.gif http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee276/amanda_simple_savings/Landscapeplan-lower.gif After 4 years - we're in! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 4Jan 14, 2009 6:38 am Stonecutter your plan looks fantastic! I might have to call my council and see what they say. My hubby is a graphic designer and was devestated when he was told he couldn't do the plan but fingers crossed he might be able to!! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 5Jan 14, 2009 6:49 am I drew ours in Powerpoint After 4 years - we're in! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 6Jan 14, 2009 11:52 am stonecutter1309 I drew ours in Powerpoint We are doing ours through Exterior (they are in Galston in the North West), they are charging $600 and they are all done through CAD using your builder's CAD files. They sent me out an example and it's absolutely fantastic. Their plan includes what type and inital size of plants will be used, a cross section of how they will be planted (ie. what tol soil, how big the hole will be, etc), the height the plants will reach at maturity, etc. so it makes it easier for you to plant it yourself in the end if you want. They will also provide a quote for the construction in that price as they are an all in one landscaper who do everything from start to finish. I can just see that there can a lot of benefits from getting it professionally done, moreso if you are not going to be planting it yourself. Finally got in touch my our council town planner and we don't need a professional one done. We can do it ourselves. I'm so relieved! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 8Jan 14, 2009 5:39 pm steve - that's a great price for all of that detail!
Our landscape adviser (Mark Ferrington from Australian Natives) designed the plan - we drew it up. When it comes to construction - he'll order everything, shape garden beds etc. All we have to do is dig holes & put the plants in, then mulch. Mind you - we don't really have any hard structural elements to worry about. After 4 years - we're in! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 9Jan 14, 2009 9:31 pm What about using Correa Dusky Bells instead of the Sys. Aust. out the front for the compact hedge. No bloody pests get into them I hate getting rid of psyllids and scale on the proverbial "lilly pilly" varieties. Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 10Jan 15, 2009 7:54 am Hi Fu - the developer has already put in syzigium along the front - so we're going to continue what is already there for simplicity. Are you planting that E. tereticornis, or was it growing on your property already? They are rare and beautiful trees - if you have a mature one, that's great! Please look after it! Re: Landscape Architect Cost & Recommendations 12Jan 20, 2009 6:29 am Albert - nope - we'll be planting one - we back on to a bush area and I saw it deep in the bush and fell in love with the tree - I showed our native plant expert and that's what he said it was - hence we chose one to create a nice link After 4 years - we're in!
