Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 07, 2009 1:27 pm Hi guys, I am hoping someone can help me out.
I am looking at putting a modular wall as our side fence, due to the fact that it is apparently 1/3 the cost of brick, and that it will be the fencing around the pool. I like the idea that it can be used as a feature, can have lighting installed, painted to match house etc. BUT....I would be really interested to hear peoples real-life experiences with this system. Is it durable? What will it look like in 5 years.....? etc. Here is the website for anyone interested... www.modularwalls.com.au If anyone would like to point out good or bad things about this product to me i would be very very grateful. I have someone coming to give me a qoute on Sat (I will prob faint at the cost ) so would be interested to know if there is anything i should ask... Thanks!!! Re: Side fencing 2Jan 08, 2009 7:54 pm I don't know anything about them, but am interested to learn how much they cost compared to a standard colourbond fence. Did you get a quote? Re: Side fencing 3Jan 08, 2009 9:27 pm Hi,
Have a look at the thread called "Our wall/fence," am not great on the computer so don't know how to do one of those direct link things but should be able to find it doing a search. I have looked at their website before. It certainly looks great. Good luck, hope this may help. Re: Side fencing 4Jan 08, 2009 10:29 pm click on the search function top right of the screen. Then I typed "our wall" as a search word. I entered "laldous" as an author to look for. then select which forum to look in so we look in "landscape and garden design"
hit enter and sha-bang... https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... light=wall :lol: I come up with this thread hang on ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ok just entered our wall fence into the search word bit. then clicked on landscape and garden and clicked search. lots of threads come up and there is the thread you are after. I right click on the thread title and select "copy link location" and paste it into here https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... wall+fence Here's how West Aussies can make sand into soil Checkout The Forever Project Before starting your landscape attend a FREE Great Gardens workshop Re: Side fencing 5Jan 08, 2009 10:54 pm Thanks for the replies, I am having my quote done on Saturday morning so will let you know the cost. I am praying that its not too expensive!. , I read the thread about your fence, Looks great! I am probably going to do the painting myself too, but not looking forward to it and thanks Fu for the link Re: Side fencing 6Jan 12, 2009 9:01 pm UPDATE I got our first quote on this modular wall fencing. In total a fence at 1.8m high with timber extension to take it to 2.3m (15m) and then a 600mm high garden fence coming around the front of the property with timber to match side fence (10m) was $14500 I need a stiff drink
That just seems crazy expensive! Anxiously awaiting the next quote......really hoping its more........................budget friendly!!!! Re: Side fencing 7Jan 16, 2009 4:10 pm That seems expensive Flissfloss.
I've just had a ~24m retainer built, obviously completely different materials etc. but from what I can tell the labour involved in the type of fence you're looking at wouldn't be as involved. I paid almost 16k. Some pics are my blog if you would like to see the type of fence and what was involved. cheers chris Re: Side fencing 8Jan 18, 2009 5:08 pm Thanks for the reply jembsb, i thought it was expensive but seeing that there are only 2 guys in nsw currently doing this type of wall its har to see just HOW expensive. I am waiting to hear from the other guy so fingers crossed .
I had a look at your blog too, love the tiles at your entry...look fantastic. Re: Side fencing 9Jan 18, 2009 5:14 pm I was fairly sure that the gardenwall fencing was about $200/m laid (when speaking with the guy who designed/patented the stuff at a garden expo)
Hope you get a better quote! After 4 years - we're in! Re: Side fencing 10Jan 18, 2009 7:14 pm Hi stonecutter.... yep that was the price the other guy gave me for that wall system, i am thinking that maybe the guy who gave me the quote didn't want the job????. Quite possible, he has done a few of the larger jobs arund nsw so might want to stick to that!. Re: Side fencing 11Jan 19, 2009 9:54 am I'm also interested in this fencing but it does sound hellishly expensive. I need to run 2 x 50m fences down the side of our new block, some of which (12m) will need to be about 1m retaining. I'm fairly confident of being able to build this myself, but the costs so far from what I've read are giving me sleepless nights.
I'd be really interested to hear what the other quote comes in at Re: Side fencing 12Jan 19, 2009 12:57 pm Flissfloss Thanks for the reply jembsb, i thought it was expensive but seeing that there are only 2 guys in nsw currently doing this type of wall its har to see just HOW expensive. Hi Flissfloss Yeah, if there aren't many tradies around to do the work, I guess you're at their mercy. Thanks for comments on the tiles. Yeah i'm really happy with them. A very hard tile to work with though, gave the tilers nightmares. Applied same tile to the big wall, although don't have close up pics on the blog. He said it could have been more if access was difficult/ground uneven, etc. For comparison, Colorbond quote for same boundary was $1700.
