Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jan 06, 2009 10:12 am Hi all
Just wondering whether anyone knows much about water tank pumps. We bought a cheapie from Aldi last week to connect at my in-law's. When I opened the box, I noticed that it does not come with a pressure switch on top. The instructions say to drop the intake hose into the water tank and ensure that the pump is above the water level. My question is: If I buy one of those pressure switches, will this turn my manual pump into an automatic one. Will I be able to connect it to the tap at the base of the water tank (instead of dropping the hose inside the tank); will it avoid having to place the pump above the water level; and will I be able to connect a trigger hose to it? If the pressure switch will help with the above points, can anyone recommend one to purchase or where to get one from. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks Em Re: Water pumps 2Jan 06, 2009 3:56 pm take the pump back, what you want to do is possible but a pain

http://www.davey.com.au/ Great pumps too. Australian made pumps - buy them from an Australian owned local company Just like your business Matt. OK not many Hi fi makers in OZ nowdays - Krix and few others excepted. But if we don't by locally made - who will? and don't say exports - They have to make it and sell it here to help them get to export levels. Steve Re: Water pumps 7Jan 12, 2009 7:28 pm Go Grundfos
Grundfos pumps are all European made and have stainless steel hydraulics. the Grundfos genie pressure pump connects tank water and mains water together, so to speak, in that the pump connects to your rainwater tank and when that empties switches over to mains water. Ideal if youre connecting your tank to your WC. It has backflow prevention built in. Its expensive. very expensive, in fact, but it is the rolls royce of pressure pump. For a more affordable solution try perusing this link. http://www.grundfos.com/web/homehandg.nsf Other than that, try your local reece plumbing supplies shop. From memory, they have an OK garden pressure pump for about $300 Re: Water pumps 8Jan 13, 2009 8:04 am vvs mand ....stainless steel hydraulics. ???? vvs mand Other than that, try your local reece plumbing supplies shop. From memory, they have an OK garden pressure pump for about $300 I bought the pump from Bunnings that costs around $149, complete with pressure switch, and it works fine. Plug it in, hook it up, pump comes on and cuts out automatically with your trigger hose no worries. Re: Water pumps 9Jan 13, 2009 11:37 am Those Grundfos pumps are what we have been having issues with I think. I am not good with these set ups and we are having issues with not being able to overide the tank to mains set up at all! The pump has what I would assume a faulty pressure valve. The water pressure is being ramped up to 3 times what mains is and is blowing apart the irrigation meaning not only is water being wasted but we can't get the plants watered!
Does anyone know how I could reset or recalibrate the pressure valve? Re: Water pumps 10Jan 13, 2009 3:48 pm Quote: ....stainless steel hydraulics. ???? All the mechanical plumbing bits are stainless, including the impellor, Quote: I bought the pump from Bunnings that costs around $149, complete with pressure switch, and it works fine. You get what you pay for. The impellor is most likely plastic and a small stone or grit will damage it and perhaps shear off the blades on the impellor. It most likely doesnt have dry running protection. Re: Water pumps 11Jan 13, 2009 3:50 pm Yak_Chat Yep http://www.davey.com.au/ Great pumps too. Australian Owned doesnt mean Australian Made From what I know about water tanks (I've been working with a client on them for a few years now) is this - The concrete can last a lifetime if they don't crack for some… 2 10638 4 10822 This certainly doesn't look good.
