I found this company in November to design our font yard, told them all the likes and dislikes, was promised to have something in a week. They never called back. Got a guy come and have a look at the house, it's a very grey, cool (as in colours), strict house, he says he'd do some olive trees and cream coloured pebbles. I said no thanks. So got another company in, again, likes/dislikes, showed them the beautiful website that I mentioned a few posts back (My Landscapes), they say, yes, we can do that, I get the drawings back today, well, they gave me olive trees, lilly pillies and kidney weed and cream coloured pebbles . (The two companies are unrelated.) No offence to people who like these plants/colours but they just do not go with our house, it's a different style completely. So now what???? Thanks for listening. They sound like they are throwing cliches at you and expecting you to love them. I cannot possibly understand how anyone in their right mind thinks olive trees and cream pebbles goes with your house. Sounds like a mixture of unprofessionalism and sheer laziness to me. You spent a lot of time getting the house you want, and you want a garden that compliments it. Perfectly reasonable. I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. Terrence Malick Re: Frustrations with front yard design 5Feb 19, 2009 4:42 pm Jo….I was thinking on the same lines, Olive Trees?
Who would use those as a landscaping theme? I love them, but for their fruit only. I have one, but I would only use it as a statement, not as a landscaping plant. You cant make it any clearer?? They are supposedly the experts, you definitely shouldn't have to hold their hands!!!! Keep looking around and maybe drive around to see some gardens you like and knock on their door to get details? You know what you want, and you dont want to settle!! Good on you!!! Re: Frustrations with front yard design 7Feb 19, 2009 5:59 pm Thank you ladies . The only problem I have now is - do I go back to them and get them to change the plan and get charged for it again?
Joles - was wandering why the guy was telling me all about his recent trip to Spain - it all makes sense now! The first guy who mentioned olive trees - I can understand, he brought a photo album of previous work and there was absolutely nothing in the same style as our house, but the second company got a best garden reward a year ago by some body or other so it came as a bit of a shock to completely dislike what they did. What to do?? Re: Frustrations with front yard design 8Feb 19, 2009 6:03 pm get someone else. sounds like you are dealing with amateurs and cowboys. Also big landscape companies that do new estates have a very limited range of plants available because they do deals to get masses of plants for a cheap price, meaning your choices are not much no matter what. I often say this for good reason and that is the very first place to check for a good landscaper is your states landscape association. The Vicco one is http://www.liav.com.au/ They will be way better. If not report your experience to the association. They work hard to keep idiots from tarnishing the reputation of responsible landscapers and the industry as a whole. Re: Frustrations with front yard design 10Feb 21, 2009 10:27 am Thank you Fu. The company that I am using are a member of LIAV and have actually won one of their awards.
I have spoken to them yesterday and they will try again so will see what happens. Re: Frustrations with front yard design 11Feb 21, 2009 12:24 pm I think I would "work" the ones you tried real hard and in particular that you have paid fro the initial plan!!!!! They have not performed so they should correct the plan according to YOUR needs.
