Any idea on prices for H-Beams per metre? I just received a quote for 23m of retaining wall starting at 1.7m in height decreasing down to 700mm in height. Came in at $14k cash. I was expecting less than half that! This did not include agi pipe or the red rocks. Just trying to work out cost of materials. I am expecting the job will require about 30 metres of H-Beam, and about 50 x 3m lengths of H4 treated pine. I think the cost of the 3m lengths are about $20 each so that's about 1k. Would expect another 1k for concrete. Re: Retaining wall quote 2Dec 10, 2008 12:43 pm I got quoted the other day $275.00 per sqm. Basically a 25m long wall 1m high, would cost about $6,875.00, I think the trouble you are in is that if the wall is more 1.1m high, so you need an engineering design. Thats what my council says anyway. Re: Retaining wall quote 3Dec 10, 2008 1:09 pm I've got the engineers design which I supplied. Basically, he needs to put in h beams 1.5m apart and use 75x200 h4 timber sleepers.
Still think $14k is too much. Re: Retaining wall quote 4Dec 10, 2008 1:44 pm Mel&Em I've got the engineers design which I supplied. If you have an Engineer design yourself why dont you go and do your own wall using retaining wall bricks, it save you a bucket load of cash. Got to be handy on the tools though. Re: Retaining wall quote 5Dec 10, 2008 2:27 pm Hi Snake
I thought the treated pine option was the cheapest. What's the price difference between that and the bricks? Em Re: Retaining wall quote 6Dec 10, 2008 2:50 pm Retaining wall bricks/blocks are bit more expensive generally, there are just so many varieties that prices can fluctuate alot. Having said that I reckon they look heaps better.

That being said, can anyone recommend someone to install the retaining wall if I supply all of the materials? I do not mind paying for their work, but I do mind being charged 10k for a few days work. I've done some costings and can get the timber, metal and the concrete for about $4.5k (retail). What does everyone else think a fair price would be for three or four days of work? I know they are suppying their expertise and their equipment/machinery. I would have thought 7k or 8k would be fair given the 4.5k cost of materials. Am I being unreasonable? Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5197 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16159 Hi All, I engaged a tradie to install concrete retaining wall 600-800mm high over 32 meters in Victoria. Sleepers are 200*75*2000 mm installed over 17 steel posts. I… 0 6917 |
