Frangapani in Melbourne 12Dec 18, 2008 6:27 pm kyton My husband is the king of frangis I think so far we have around 30-50 trees all in pots ready and waiting to go into the ground!! The best time to take a cutting is in the middle of winter - they are dormant so will be ready to plant in spring. We were always told to leave the cuttings sitting out in the dry air to toughen up - but now we don't even do that. We just stick them straight into potting mix and away they go. We found a huge stack of cuttings dumped in the bush a couple of months ago. The next day DH went back and collected them and potted them all. My three year old tells us all the time that her favourite plant in the whole world is a "hangypany" yep, just bung them in. A mate of mine grows some of Perths biggest supplies of frangis' and he does his propagating in early to mid spring here (depends on cold). once the cold has passed then they develope the roots. Most stocks around Perth for retail nurseries are still a month or two away (we have had cool weather). Some small batches have been around for a bit here and there. Why not grow them in a pot as a young plant? We often do that for Mangos here. That way you can drag them under the verandah in the cold (protect them from frosts) and drag them out in the sun in the warmth. Then when they are too big to fit under there, plant them up I do enjoy the drama:-D In his latest two videos he has started bringing security guards to site, I am waiting for the punch on to begin lol 6 45547 It's all about wireless, self install now.
