That's a great looking garden. Can't wait for the final pictures. I am creatively challenged so will probably need a landscaper to put ideas in my head. i'm having trouble trying to decide how i want the driveway to curve / not curve. Re: Our weekend projects 44Apr 26, 2009 10:46 am We are almost there Only the finishing touches.. Mirboo capping on the boxes Mondo grass in front of deck & in & around letterbox. And more plants Any ideas as to what else we can plant? Native would be good. We have recycled water also, so watering wont be a problem for other plants Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ We have the alfresco well under way, all frame complete & roof on. Guttering going on as I type. Plastering under neath is next & painting Decking will finish it all off nicely... Thanks rookie Now we wait for it to grow.. Creatively challenged never.. You only need one idea, then 2 or 3 friends out the front throwing ideas around thats how we did it "we can do this, yer then you can... what about if... and wallah creation complete Try using a hose, rope or timber to create lines so you can see it, it helps me.. We also wonder around the display homes to get ideas & go from there.. nesspop Why am I covered in feathers Re: Our weekend projects 46Apr 26, 2009 11:15 am Nesspop, your garden etc looks fantastic! I may just have to steal some of your ideas viewtopic.php?f=31&t=22766 - my build thread! Time waits for no man. Unless that man is Chuck Norris. Re: Our weekend projects 50Apr 26, 2009 9:32 pm Nesspop that's a really great looking front yard, it must be nice to be almost finished too. How on earth will your nextdoor neighbours be able to keep up with that Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. We have recycled water also, so watering wont be a problem for other plants It has come together well. More plants!? It does need more under and around the space where the trees are The plant that would go best is what you have planted around as a boarder in the tier below, the Kanga Paws (Top WA plant those! ). If you leave them where they are the kanga paws will get some height around that bit so planting under the trees will need to be done with shrubs that get higher than the Kangas will. So that will start to block the frontage of the home. I'd rip out the Kanga Paws (You might even be able to split them now ) and replant under the pears Then do a nice formal hedge of Correa Dusky bell where the Kanga paws are and you have simplicity meets modern and functional with out having a mismatch later That row of what looks like maybe a Pittosporum of somesort? will end up a lovely hedge so the correa dusky bell as a low hedge around the rest will tie in well. Maybe even a row of correa along the front of the bigger hedge to the right of shot will help tie the garden together well. They are native too and put on one hell of a flower show when clipped up. Also the winter sun will allow the Kanga Paws to do well when the pears lose their leaves. They will be fine in summer shade under the trees. A heap of seasol on them once done and away you go. I would suggest clipping those shrubs (pittos?) This allows them to narrow up and encourage them to grow upward more and begin to join a bit more. This time next year it will be gob smacking! Oh and chop those kanga paws back to the ground just about next feb/mar to increase the flower and reduce the "ink spotting" they get. Don't want to spend the whole weekend mowing lawns nesspop Why am I covered in feathers Re: Our weekend projects 53Apr 27, 2009 10:23 am Fu Manchu nesspop Any ideas as to what else we can plant? We didn't want to go over board with roo paws, but hubby loves them.. Are you meaning the pittosporum on the driveway side? Placing the bell's in that garden bed? Fu Manchu I would suggest clipping those shrubs (pittos?) This allows them to narrow up and encourage them to grow upward more and begin to join a bit more. Yes we did that when we first put them in & they took off, so we will do it again Fu Manchu This time next year it will be gob smacking! Oh and chop those kanga paws back to the ground just about next feb/mar to increase the flower and reduce the "ink spotting" they get. When you say chop, thats the greenery as well? Gob smacking will be good Thanks so much for your advice nesspop Why am I covered in feathers Re: Our weekend projects 54Apr 27, 2009 4:52 pm Yes the lawn softens it alright and its a good idea you have access from the side there .A realestate agent was telling me thats a good selling point to be able to get another car, trailer in ect through the side entrance Re: Our weekend projects 55Apr 27, 2009 6:46 pm nesspop Hels Nesspop that's a really great looking front yard, it must be nice to be almost finished too. In this house we made the garage wider but have got a rear roller door for access to the backyard. Blog: http://bluemistkids.blogspot.com "Never be afraid to try something new. A bit late now but a tip for Feb/ Mar next year To divide the roo paws, just get a spade under them and leaver them up. Then, get a tommahawk or something sharp like an old steak knife. You might even be able to split apart them with your thumbs. Cut the foliage back to half and plant the new plants. That's what the nursery would have done to sell to the retail nursery that sold them to you Best do this once it warms a bit. Moving them can be done now though The pittos on the side, just in front of them almost near the edging, do a row of the correas in there. Like a tiered hedge then .
