This stuff in full blazing sun gets HOT!!! Melbourne had it's first real hot full sunny day earlier this week. As you can see from the pictures on page 1 of this thread, the turf has been layed in full sun, and on a northerly aspect. There is no shade from any large canopy trees, and this stuff was damned hot! Remember it is layed on compacted rock, and has sand swept into it. Think how hot sand down the beach can get on a full sun day. The turf was exactly the same. I had trouble walking about 5 steps on it in bare feet. It's fine when there is intermitant cloud cover, but this one particular day, it was out in full sun and the air temp was up to 36C. The nature strip ('real' grass) was cool to touch, but the synthetic was horrendous! Something to think about if intending to lay it in full sun where kids are likely to play! Re: Synthetic Turf Installation...lots of pics!! 26Nov 15, 2008 11:24 pm ahhhh so real turf just wouldn't do that In fact a real turf helps cool a home and produces excellent oxygen rather than any chemicals like the synthetic stuff Re: Synthetic Turf Installation...lots of pics!! 27Nov 16, 2008 9:02 am Yes, I aggree with Fu, looks are not everything, I will take my weedy grass areas anyday and mowing is great for ones fittness and you do not have to pay for the club entry . Some people take their dogs for a walk I take my trusted 25 year old mower for one .
Maggie Re: Synthetic Turf Installation...lots of pics!! 28Nov 16, 2008 6:07 pm heh heh, me too. every Friday I take the trusty push mower for a walk. Re: Synthetic Turf Installation...lots of pics!! 29Nov 03, 2012 7:23 am That is fantastic S. It is so good to see it like that. I gathered it was like laying carpet - ie an underlay type layer on top of gravel/sand and then the "carpet" layed. I like the idea of a small golf set-up too.
