We had contacted 25-30 contractors and we either get no reply ( and we have messaged, emailed, called and Text messaged ) or they ask what we are looking for and when we tell them we dont get a response. Is this normal right now for this to happen. Also, the couple that have replied are asking for 50% deposit before they even start, is that standard practice? I digress, The council here wants to charge you $250 to inspect the verge tree to see how it impacts the proposed Planning Application. The bottom line is everyone is too busy to be quoting for free and they want to be paid up front. BTW, If they are doing that, you are better off waiting. Buy a temp fence and sell it on gumtree later, its cheaper than renting. If it's damaged during your build you aren't going to be up for a replacement, tell the neighbours to wait on.
