I am waiting, not very patiently for settlement to occur on our land. While I am waiting I have started to map out a landscaping plan for the back yard.
It is 17.4m across the back and we will have approx 6 metres from the house to the back fence. I was thinking about putting camelias along the back fence as a screening/hedge type planting and putting raised bed along the sides of the block. So my questions are:
1 how deep should the beds be? I am not sure I am asking this correctly, I perhaps I should say wide? Is 0.75 metres deep enough or should I make them 1 metre?
2 I would like to create a raised edgeing as well, can I use treated pine sleepers or would red gum be better because of whatever chemicals the pine is treated with?
3 On one side I would like to create a vege garden it will face north. Should I raise this bed more than the others? I heard that vegies are better in raised beds how much should they be raised from ground level?
4 if I make the vege patch 4m by 1.5m is this a decent size to start with or should I go bigger /smaller?
I plan on putting a couple of fruit trees down the side of the house, where we will have 4mtrs from the house to the fence.
Any ideas/suggestions very welcome
Thanks in advance
