Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Jul 07, 2022 11:19 pm Hi, I own an acreage property in a north eastern suburb of WA & am looking at what shrubs to plant into a privacy screen / informal hedge so as to block out the busy road at the front of our property. The shrubs would need to grow 4-5 metres high to block the traffic out as the road is elevated. The soil here is clay /loam & it can get very hot in summer with a strong easterly wind. I like the metrosideros Thomasii but not sure of it's water requirements over summer, there is a hedge of Thomasii growing down the road from my place it grew well to start with but after a couple of years of good growth, it seems to be dying back in the majority of the shrubs. So not sure if this is a common problem with them. I also like the Syzygium's & Cottonwood hibiscus shrubs which have proven to grow well here. Any advice or information on the Thomasii or other suitable plants would be much appreciated.
