I had my house underpinned and the builders recommended putting a garden against the house to help keeping the soil solid, thus reducing the problems I was experiencing. As long as the garden doesn't slope towards the house and the water drains well there shouldn't be a problem. Some people don't think when they are putting in a garden bed and they slope the soil t downwards towards the house - this is obviously bad. Adrain T.
