Looking really nice! Thanks Michelle! Michelle Have the gnomes gone on holidays yet? Nope. We bought one years ago as a bit of a daggy joke, and then kept on getting them as gifts from FIL! Got about 4 or 5 of the little buggers now.... Michelle It’s also been interesting to watch the progress of the house next door. You should see the house across the street! I might try and take a ** pic of it one day. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Our Landscaping Story 125Dec 13, 2010 1:03 am Perdita :: That Kangaroo Paw is stunning! Re: Our Landscaping Story 128May 29, 2011 9:45 pm Can't believe that it has been nearly 6 months since I've written here! One day soon I'll post some pics of how the gardens look nowadays but in the meantime I've got something else to talk about. Some of you may know that we are extending our deck out to the fenceline from our existing alfresco area which was itself an extension from the original plan. In some respects it was an agonising decision to actually go ahead with the extension because it would block car access to the back yard, but here we are. Discussion about the decision can be found here: viewtopic.php?f=1&t=43572 Anyway, the extension is well underway. It is being done on occasional Sundays by a good mate of DS's and one of his workmates, both of whom are building apprentices. Pics! 2 weeks ago construction started and the stumps went in the ground. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Today, the base. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The wall at the end will be covered with sheeting, I might render it or just paint it and cover it with brush or bamboo screning, I don't know yet. In any case our new water feature will be centrally placed there with our large pots either side. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Industrial chic, at the right price. The power point is for the water feature and will be hidden from view but easily reachable. I will still need to make a hole through the sheeting behind the water feature for the lead though. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ The deck extension should be finished next weekend but after that there will still be plenty to do. More lights, gardens along the sides, and longer term will see a re-do of the grassed area between the deck and the gates including re-edging the paths and making them wider, which will make the area lend itself to being more suitable for setting the BBQ up there etc. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Our Landscaping Story 130May 30, 2011 9:51 am Great stuff- thanks for sharing. Not much happened this weekend; potentially it would have been all completed by now but due to a few circumstances it will take another weekend. Anyway, the backboard has been roughed in, the extra downlights have been installed in the eaves, and the wall hanging has been painted and...hung! Re: Our Landscaping Story 134Jun 14, 2011 7:46 pm Thanks! The deck itself is now complete apart from oiling which will have to wait, and the wall still needs bogging up and painting. I'm thinking of painting it Deep Ocean to match the trims on the house, but in a textured finish - maybe a fistfull of sand in the paint tin will do. Some new gardens on the sides of the deck will happen, too. Early on the weekend we couldn't wait to simulate the finished product so we arranged some furniture there for effect. Not sure what the dog made of it. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And today, Voila! Geoff - Decophile. Re: Our Landscaping Story 135Jun 14, 2011 9:55 pm Awesome job and I love the decking. Is that 140mm Merbau decking and have you used a nailless system to fasten the boards? Re: Our Landscaping Story 138Jun 15, 2011 4:55 pm karry - yep, 140mm merbau, but nailed not nailless. m_p - thanks! donuts - thanks! Yep, we had a cuppa while precariously perched there! It will probably take many months until the finishing touches are made and really it was probably the wrong time of year to get it built - what you see took a month - but at least it will be well established come summer. Geoff - Decophile. Re: Our Landscaping Story 139Jun 16, 2011 7:01 pm Well done Geoff!!! How much do you reckon that back board setup cost and how long is it? I'm wondering if I should do something like that to block out my neighbours 'A bottle of wine contains more philosophy than all the books in the world.' Louis Pasteur Vegie garden: viewtopic.php?f=19&t=27637&start=0 My Backyard Adventure Re: Our Landscaping Story 140Jun 16, 2011 8:14 pm Thanks Lisa! I can (and will) find out for ya; we only got quoted for the total job but I don't think the wall by itself would be too dear. It's just a simple stud frame covered in cement sheeting with just enough sheeting on the back side of it to go below the fenceline, so it doesn't look ugly from the neighbours side. It sits 1.8m above the deck level for the dual purposes of maintaining that height above foot level, and also that if I decided to cover it with that brush or bamboo stuff that you get in a roll, it would be an exact fit. I will probably just paint it though. It is 4.1m wide. Geoff - Decophile. Hi, We have a single story MacDonald Jones house, on a waffle pod slab with steel frame.
