I'm confused....the previous gardener had made some defined edging around the backyard which we will be ripping up to make deeper garden beds. Outside of this edging, where you would have expected grass - or attempts at grass to be made - I've got several patches of a large plant. Originally because of their location I thought they might be weeds. Paying more attention to them they seem to be maybe a groundcover.
They are growing in a brown clay, full sun and don't appear to need much water. Would be loathe to get rid of a perfectly good ground cover if it is thriving...particularly as where they are they would fit into my ideas for the backyard. They are also mulching the soil really well underneath and keeping it moist even with the little rain we've had.
Can anyone identify this plant....I actually think there's two types...thanks guys.
