So, I figure it's time to approach those far more knowledgeable than I in the area of lawn awesomeness and seek their wisdom for my poor kikuyu in our backyard.
A bit of background. Our backyard used to be all paved on a split level. Over one hot summer, we managed to level it out ready for what was meant to be my pride and joy. Our soil (if you can call it that) is basically clay (north-east suburbs of Adelaide), we dug down 150mm and used 80:20 loam as the base. Used roll out kikuyu and everything was set.
Until it wasn't. Over time, areas of the grass thinned and practically died off, while others were green as green and almost needed to be mowed every second day (see photos).
I've tried over watering, under watering, fertiliser and nothing seems to get those sections going. In the photos, I've let it go for two weekends to exaggerate the issue (apologies for all the stuff on the lawn - 40 degree day = slip and slide with the kids).
I give it a hard mow around September to help de-thatch and bounce back.
I seek your wisdom! Please help!
