What on earth should I plant here? Need something that will be decent looking most of the year as this will be a key view from inside our living room and kitchen. But now I have no idea what will actually survive here...! The attached photo examples are very similar to my design - though I have no idea what tree they actually planted in this example. Go for something with foliage colour to be a real talking point. South will get very little light/heat. Avoid anything deciduous as it will be a stick for months and could get very damp and gross in there with all that leaf litter. Shade loving plants. Maybe mix a few of varying heights to add interest. A shade loving palm or fern with some anthuriums? Monsteria deliciosa will wrap around a moss stick nicely. Some Elephant Ears (the black leaf varieties are amazing). Philodendron (Hope or Xanadu) have gorgeous leaf shapes as well. Add in some orchids for colour (you can hide the pots amongst more mature foliage). https://thomasarcherbuild.blogspot.com/p/blog-page.html - Thomas Archer Homes - Custom Nouveau 41 Re: What tree/plantings for shaded atrium? 3Oct 29, 2020 9:17 am The small plants are Rhoeo - Moses-in-the-cradle Hello. I just bought a few acres in Habana, Mackay, and my horses seem to love hanging around under this tree. I would like to name the paddock after this tree. Can… 0 9946 Fellow Perth dweller. Looks like pruns nigra. It's a dark leaf flowering plum. Doesn't get massive and is easily trimmed deciduous tree. Very popular in small gardens in Perth 7 3167 |
