Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 Oct 11, 2020 8:02 am Hi all, I've just started landscaping my new home. I have planted some smallish specimen under my front window, Rhapis Excesla (Lady Finger Palm) & The Coryline Fruticosa 'Rubra'. These plants all have very small/narrow roots from my research and are very slow growing here in Melbourne. After getting my landscaper to put them in, I'm now having second thoughts whether they could cause any problems to my homes concrete slab? I've heard of issues relating to 'Slab Heave' and by rule of thumb you should not plant close to the perimeter of the home. However, I see many home around here with plantings close up to the home... The soil conditions here are highly reactive, western suburbs of Melbourne and have now read plantings should be at least 1.5m away from the home. I have attached a picture of my plants, what are your thoughts? Will they be ok where they are or do I run the risk of moisture causing damage to my slab? Thanks in advance.
