That's mostly Kikuyu. Kikuyu is not the easiest to establish by seeding and takes considerable time. Looking at your photo's you either didn't plant at a high rate or establishment wasn't high. Regardless, keep water, nutrients up to it and give it a mow to encourage stolons and rhizomes to spread out. You won't have a thick lawn by winter, but by end of next summer it should look good.

Not all Emerald is pure Emerald.
It takes 3-6 weeks to germinate in ideal times of year.
Buy the smaller boxes of seed that are 100% Emerald and wait.

Thanks. Now that it has cooled off up here in qld I'm going to plant another bigger patch and mix some pure stuff in with the mixed stuff I have to hopefully get a thicker onset. What do you recommend in the way of ground prep. I have sandy soil that becomes very hard when it dries out

Add some compost through it, and zeolite. The top 20-30cm
You may have sandy loam which is nice.

Thought I'd revive an old thread rather than create a new one.
My front nature Kikuyu nature strip was decimated by some NBN donkeys at the start of winter. The worst time as it had no chance to recover. A couple of quite large parts were really wrecked. So I basically left over winter...and in that time weeds just infested the bare spots in particular...but also the rest of the strip.
So I sprayed about 10 days ago with Amgro Kleen Lawn which helped a bit to kill off some weed. Gave it a mow yesterday and have sprayed again and will just leave it for a week or so.
No doubt it will look pretty rank for a while.
I was thinking of getting some Professional Pure Kikuyu Premium Seed Blend and putting on the bare spots...it says it's 100% pure Emerald Kikuyu.
Does this seem like an OK plan? Or anything else I should consider? It's the only grass I have so I'd like to get it back into some sort of shape.

Hi Brains Trust I am looking for a good selective weed spray for kikuyu and paspalum. I realise this forum will have old posts but I guess there could be new herbicides…
