Dromana Toppings - Question

Put a layer of dromana toppings (40mm) on top of a well compacted base (75mm) of crushed rock.

Damped down the toppings very lightly before using a plate compactor. Brushed off as much of the ridges caused by the compactor as possible but these still show and I'm not happy with the overall finish.

How can I smooth these ridges out of the toppings? Can I run a compactor over the toppings once they've dried out and hardened? Do I need to damp them down again before compacting again?

Any help or advice on the best way get a much smoother surface would be great.
