Was the companies quote based off the contour plan and elevations you provided, was there anything signed like a contract or the quote which states to build to a certain height or plans? Builders, concreters, landscapers, pool builders etc all know how to work off a datum. To say what they did is b.s. Re: Retaining Wall Expectations 3Aug 28, 2020 5:07 pm Howyagoin I think it’s fair you feel the work is unreasonable. Builders, concreters, landscapers, pool builders etc all know how to work off a datum. To say what they did is b.s. Thanks for the feedback! I did provide a clear sketch of natural ground RL and what RL I wanted at top of wall at every point. This together with the contour plan (including reliable datums/screw in kerb locations). I sent this with estimated wall height requirements along wall. I was provided a quote that specified wall heights required and the lengths required. Everyone had a copy of my sketches in office and on site. The first I was told they don't use the survey marks is when the job went wrong. So like you say, I think they do use survey marks and used it as an excuse when they stuffed up. Disappointed they wouldn't admit fault but they have fixed the most critical part of the wall (being 50% of the length) at their cost. Being steel posts and concrete sleepers it was an extra full day's work. It just leaves me to source about another 10m3 of fill I didn't plan for on the other 50%. Think I'll just leave it at that and specifically point out the survey marks next time and confirm they will be used as the height reference. Re: Retaining Wall Expectations 5Aug 29, 2020 11:49 am If they had all the documents and your email with those specifications then there isn’t an excuse really. They didn’t have to take the job on. It may have been a mistake or laziness to not do it how it should have been. Regarding the quality of work, I personally haven’t had experience with concrete sleepers only timber sleepers and steel h sections etc. The concrete lumps should’ve been flattened. The gaps at the bottom are a bit tricky as to if that should be filled in. Depends what was quoted, if it will have an issue with sediment or water coming through then that’s a problem. If it’s aesthetic then it’s probably acceptable. Re: Retaining Wall Expectations 6Aug 29, 2020 1:25 pm I'd be concerned that fill will wash out from under that panel. They should reach and extend below ground level to prevent that. I am inclined to insist on another sleeper be installed under that section. The information I provided to the landscaper indicated a wall height of 540mm was required in the middle of that section, with that I would have thought a 600 high wall should have been used. I know what would be involved in fixing it and expect it will face resistance but I think it needs to be done. I also think it is unfair on my neighbour to have an unsightly gap under the wall too. Do we think adding another sleeper under (due to possible erosion and aesthetics) is a fair demand? Re: Retaining Wall Expectations 11Sep 20, 2020 10:13 am How did it go Dan, did the landscaper dig up all the 2 sleeper high parts and replace with three? A serious loss on a quote! Thats why its important to do things right first time round. Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that. Have a good day 4 5179 Thanks for the insights, that makes perfect sense, and yeah, I will be leaning on the experience of the excavator operator entirely. 6 16122 Hi All, I engaged a tradie to install concrete retaining wall 600-800mm high over 32 meters in Victoria. Sleepers are 200*75*2000 mm installed over 17 steel posts. I… 0 6900 |
