Browse Forums Landscape & Garden Design 1 May 26, 2009 7:16 am Is it possible to do a reasonable soil analysis ones' self? Our property has mainly beautiful grassy areas that look nice n' healthy, but there is one section that supports a lovely crop of mainly mixed broadleaf weeds. The previous owner grew snow peas in the paddock about 10 years ago, which I'm guessing has had something to do with it. I know in general the entire east coast is lacking in dolomite/lime, which we plan to do at some stasge. But I would like to get some reasonable grass in this one area & have them choke out the weeds. Our area is surrounded by market gardens and was mapped by the local water authority...and our garden matches the soil types in the market gardens...although lacking the century of cultivation... I'm sure Fu will have a quick and dirty guide to soil mapping... mmm....donuts Homer Simpson 1956- Links: Site Costs Ready Reckoner | H1 Addiction Medical Advice | Château TDL: The Backyard Re: DIY Soil Analysis (for horticulture, not biulding) 3May 26, 2009 11:53 am It is far more complicated than that. As far as DIY soil testing you are limited to getting a pH test kit which gives you about as much info as watching a movie with 90% of the screen blacked out. TDL has it in the bag Your states Ag Dept will be the best port of call. Re: DIY Soil Analysis (for horticulture, not biulding) 4May 27, 2009 7:12 am Thanks TDL & Fu. It is only one area of our block - the rest is growing nicely. Will speak to the Ag Dept.
