Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Oct 03, 2008 2:11 pm Well amazingly in his drunkness DH only managed to break one thing in the house last week
When he got home (singing the club song) he managed to slam the door so hard that he has broke the door frame (architrave?) It has come away from the wall by a few mms/cms, you can see a nail poking out... We are wondering how or who could fix this? We have tried banging it back into the wall but it won't go back... What tools could we use if we were to DIY? If we were to hire someone what sort of occupation does this sort of fix-it work? Needless to say DH can't remember the incident My karma ran over your dogma Re: Need some help :) 3Oct 03, 2008 2:26 pm You could see if there are any fixing carpeneters in your local newspaper...or a local handyman might know.
Pretty good though, only 1 thing broken I am impressed. Re: Need some help :) 5Oct 03, 2008 5:01 pm Bel, I suggest you call SD. I have no doubt he could fix such things with all his talents. Just get him to wear something manly, pick up some tools and get him to bang away.
I'll be over immediately to supervise the whole thing. Jo I leave you to fend for yourself, figure things out yourself. It must have been one all mighty slam! It’s a wounder he didn’t break windows as well. Take a photo of the door jamb so we can see. Otherwise I would call a chippy into to fix it. While it was a pretty big door slam we have come to the conclusion that his current townhouse we are in has been built pretty cheaply, this is just another example... I'm about to get ready for an engagement party but I'll post a photo tomorrow Jo - My karma ran over your dogma Re: Need some help :) 9Oct 03, 2008 5:21 pm I wasn’t game to say so….but yes, if the arck came loose from a door slam.
It’s badly built! Better hope you don’t get an earthquake! Actually he didn't break anything at his place either when coming home drunk - not that he didn't get drunk but I heard a rumour he didn't even make it home - literally crashed out on clubroom floor for the night Re: Need some help :) 11Oct 03, 2008 9:32 pm Another option to think about ...
If the architrave can go back to its position without too much force, you can try liquid nails, but you'll need something to push the architrave against the wall while it cures. Funny mental image!!! Well it certainly could have been a lot worse!!! I'm sure there were worse stories from other WAGS!!!!!!!!!! Hope your DIY project went well!!! But I have a pic to show you what I meant and am wondering if people still think nails/hammer is the way to go because if so DH is going to give it a go tonight Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ My karma ran over your dogma Re: Need some help :) 16Nov 17, 2008 7:54 am I'm thinking glue is the next option, last night DH tried with the nail and he couldn't even get it through the archs into the wall
I said we need either a nail gun or some type of glue... My karma ran over your dogma Re: Need some help :) 17Nov 17, 2008 8:32 am Bel, a nail gun or a chippy with a nail gun. They chippy sounds better as they are licensed to operate a nail gun. . Hi VK, I am now retired however I have stood beside over 300 owner builders in the past 18 years that have successfully built their own homes. First of all a building… 10 22606 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13817 6 11528 |
