I need the rail on there real solid as im going to hang a couple of bikes. How do i drill that to line up the ready made holes in the rail? Cheers Re: Rail mount on brick 2May 18, 2020 11:55 pm Hi vicmik Just hold the rack on the wall in the desired position, mark the holes, then drill them with a masonry drill. Put in wall plugs and then screw on. I'd either use 50mm green plugs and 50mm 12 gauge self tappers or 8mm ramplugs and the same screws. Either will be plenty strong enough to hold your bikes. Just make sure you don't drill right through the bricks. Do I chip them off where I want the hole or drill on the side to get started if a hole lines up on the side of one of those if you know what I mean. Thats whats throwing me off, just no experience drilling in brick let alone a surface like that. Re: Rail mount on brick 4May 19, 2020 6:02 pm Hi mate. I see what you mean now about the variable face on the brick. Just hold it so the holes are on the mortar line. As long as the mortar is good quality you will get plenty of fixing power into it and then the holes will be easier to drill. Ended up having a go going into the brick. Took me about 45 mins to get three and a half holes with a hammer drill. Need a new bit or two tomorrow as the carbide tip has now been rounded. Tested the completed holes with the rack and holding strong as! Using 50mm blue plugs by the way with an 8mm bit.
