Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Jul 20, 2019 8:41 pm There seems to be a crack in the cement base above the bathroom ceiling, and the water drips from there (a drop every few minutes). I understand that the best way forward would be to go upstairs, remove the bathroom floor of the apartment above ours, fix any cracks and put the floor back. However, no one is going to do that . What is the best way to solve this problem from my end? Some kind of sealant, filling, putty? I understand that it won't be permanent and won't solve the problem for good, but I need something that is reasonable and more or less reliable in the circumstances. Thank you! It's hard to tell from the picture but it looks like it's wet all the way around the penetration through the floor. Whatever you do on your side is just like building a bucket, the leak will continue and fill it up and it will leak from somewhere else. The waterproofing on the unit above has failed and needs to be fixed. I know that your neighbour won't want to hear that but it's the only real option. So there is nothing worth even trying, other than demanding people above do something? I'm afraid it's going to drag on and on and that effectively we are on our own in this ordeal. Re: Advice on repairing a crack in the ceiling 5Jul 21, 2019 9:43 am sashka Are you talking about some sort of strata insurance? I can't think of anything else. There has to be something that covers this sort of scenario surely. How old is the building (approx)? You could also ask for advice on the Whirlpool Home sub forum. There have been some discussions about leaking upstair's balconies etc. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Advice on repairing a crack in the ceiling 6Jul 21, 2019 11:27 pm The building is approx 10-12 years old. I've heard it has general issues with roof design. For instance, when there were heavy rains, we had a couple more tiny leaks elsewhere, nothing to do with the bathroom. So probably there is a general problem with drainage. I think I will use a temporary solution, like this: https://www.bunnings.com.au/gripset-bet ... r_p0960222 , so it holds for a year or two, and start talking to strata in parallel to see whether they can do anything... Thanks a lot for your time. Re: Advice on repairing a crack in the ceiling 7Jul 22, 2019 7:34 am Maybe others also have similar problems. Is there a way you can find out additional to reporting to Strata? There is a similar thread on the Whirlpool forums in the Home sub forum but from upstairs, it might be of interest. The general advice on there was to see Strata. https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/thread/3rpm0rx3 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage.
