Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Mar 12, 2022 9:47 am Hi...chasing some advice 'cause I've run out of ideas. We have a charged water system and in the recent heaving Brisbane rains our water tank volume did not change at all. The first flush pipe is empty and the IO doesn't really reveal anything. Is there anyway to test the system. It used to work a couple of months ago, spent money on a new pump....now it doesn't fill. Tks Re: Charged Wet Water System 2Mar 12, 2022 10:33 am The water is obviously going somewhere. What is covering the sub surface pipe? How many downpipes service the wet system? You mention a single first flush diverter and so I am assuming one downpipe. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Charged Wet Water System 3Mar 12, 2022 9:53 pm Hi, Not sure what you mean in the first question. If you mean literally overing it I think dirt then pebbles. Only one downpipe services it. Re: Charged Wet Water System 4Mar 12, 2022 10:44 pm Ok...one downpipe and the first flush is (always?) empty. I am now assuming that the first flush isn't at the downpipe where it should be. Standard first flush diverters empty within a few hours of the rain stopping. How long have you had the tank? I was assuming it is a wet system pipe to a tank away from the house because water not coming down a dry system pipe near the tank would obviously be noticable. Is the pipe covered by concrete even part way or all the way by the dirt and pebbles, If there is no concrete, then there should be an obvious large wet patch somewhere. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Charged Wet Water System 5Mar 13, 2022 1:59 pm Hi. Okay, downpipe is at the corner of the house. Travels underground (no visible wet areas) and surfaces 10m beside the tank rising to above the tank level. The pipe then runs parallel to the ground with the first flush downpipe occurring as a downpipe before the pipe enters into the the tank. The first flush has filled previously as I normally empty it before a storm. I have found the IO but that really doesn't show me anything. Does this make sense? It's like it's just stopped working. Re: Charged Wet Water System 6Mar 13, 2022 5:53 pm ShaneB4208 The pipe then runs parallel to the ground with the first flush downpipe occurring as a downpipe before the pipe enters into the the tank. During normal operation, when a first flush diverter drains either the top of the vertical riser or the horizontal pipe at the top of the riser, it only fills with the settled water in the riser...that is...the furst flush will still be in the downpipe, the reason why a first flush diverter should be fitted at the downpipe. This gives an insight into the professionalism or otherwise of the plumber who installed the system. There is obviously two immediate scenarios. 1. The downpipe is blocked and if the gutter isn't overflowing, then the water in the gutter is flowing over the gutter's two high points (top of slope) to the two downpipes on either side. 2. There is a serious hole in the subsurface pipe. Most leaks occur at a fitting and is most often caused by poor fitting practices and we already know that the plumber wasn't too bright. Given that there is no wet patch, the next step would be to have a CCTV cam inspection booked to try to find the hole. The pipe could possibly have popped out of a fitting if it was not fitted correctly. 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Re: Charged Wet Water System 7Mar 13, 2022 7:52 pm Thank you very much, was wondering if that was my next option. I'd have attached a photo but it doesn't appear this forum supports it. Appreciate your advice and will let u know how it goes. Re: Charged Wet Water System 8Mar 13, 2022 10:22 pm At the bottom left on the post you are replying to, you will see PM Reply Like. It also brings up that post's text but you can delete it in part or full. The plumber will put the cam down the IO. That will also tell you with some accuracy the leak's location. 3in1 Supadiverta. This vertical pipe passes a first flush pipe (beside the pump) before continuing on to fill the tank. Tks for the tip on posting photos. Re: Charged Wet Water System 10Mar 14, 2022 9:08 pm Yep, the first flush diverter only fills with the settled water in the riser. Your only option is the CCTV inspection, 3in1 Supadiverta.
