Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Dec 17, 2018 1:23 pm Hi guys, we have just moved into our new home in the West Sydney. 2 weeks in and we didn't really have any major issues with insects until last night we had an invasion of them. That was a nightmare as they were just coming and coming from under the entrance door. I believe we have some sort of seal under the entrance door as there were no insects in last 2 weeks. We were fighting them for almost 2 hours last night and I wouldn't want this experience to repeat again. We sprayed with something we bought earlier in Bunnings (https://www.bunnings.com.au/richgro-3l- ... r_p0046397) around the entrance doors and some of the downstairs windows we keep frequently open but i don't think it would help for long. Is there any good long term solution? Do we need to hire someone or we can spray ourselves? We have small kids in the house, so we wonder if any of those sprays can be used in the areas where kids will later play (like backyard and alfresco)? PS: we haven't finished our landscaping yet so the house is currently surrounded by the dirt and natural ground environment. We have the termite protection system pre-installed and will hire a company to engage it after the landscaping. So termite wouldn't be an issue and currently we are struggling with ants, bugs and such. and yes, we do have fly screens in all windows and alfresco door (except for entrance door) but small bugs manage to get in anyway. If someone has more experience please advise! Re: Pest control in a newly built home - Sydney 4Dec 17, 2018 3:10 pm You are probably experiencing a swarm of alates (known as flying ants). This means there are termite nests in your neighbourhood releasing Alates in search of new colonies to invade(remember your house is food for Termites, they don't know its a house , they think its a tree). I your termite protection is well done you should be Ok but don't forget your annual inspections. As for swarms, not much you can do about it, keep them out , its short term occurence. I wouldn't want to do that every night so I wonder if I spray around the porch, would that work for long or would I need to do it frequently? In case they'll come back, use a vacuum and suck them up. Hi group, have some damage to the door frame and skirting board. It's a side door to the laundry area. Only has a security door.
