Does anyone have good advice on how to repair an outdoor timber handrail that has large splinters. I have attached some photos. Do i cut the splinters out and fill the gaps or should I glue down the splinters. The handrail gets a lot of sun and is always exposed to the elements. Due to the run of the grain, you'd have to cut pretty deep to get that to stop splitting, and filling that hole would be tough, although not impossible. Alternatively, you could glue and bandage it and then see what it looks like in a few week time and then sand, patch and paint. However, personally I would get someone in to replace the entire handrail, top to bottom, with new quality timber. While you are in the mood for doing some maintenance, I'd be getting some decking oil or coating on those treads. They will eventually crack too, and replacing those stairs will be a several thousand dollar job. Would it need a proper sand first? For the railing I will get some quotes and see what it costs to have it properly replaced. You can just oil straight on the grey treads, but it will not change the colour back to how it once was. Nothing wrong with that as it may better match boards on the top landing. However, if you'd like the original colour back, then you can sand off the grey to the timber underneath. However, if you do sand and want to keep the painted boarder on each tread, repaint those and let that cure before you oil, as paint will not stick if the surface is oily. PS, Gravox cannot help you here consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 6602 4 4430 Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
