The area is partly laid with pavers (before we moved in) and the rest is with small rock chips, sand and soil. A photo is attached. I was thinking to concrete the area so that it is of low maintenance. How should I prepare the area for this type of work? Which type of concrete/sand mix should be used? Any other suggestions or comments is welcomed. Otherwise, this looks like about 16 square metres of concrete so I'd suggest getting in a concrete company as it is a bit too big to do manually unless you have some pretty handy concrete laying skills. Plain will be cheaper than exposed concrete. Re: Brainstorming ideas on backyard 3May 07, 2017 3:18 pm For a softer look (and still low maintenance), you could lay artificial turf. My daughter has a small back yard, removed all the pavers and laid artificial turf - has been 2 years now constantly used by family (including two youngsters) and shows no sign of wear or movement. Re: Brainstorming ideas on backyard 5Jun 07, 2017 3:55 pm I would agree about the pavers too. Unless of course you entirely hate the tiles that are chosen and it seems like the original job is really bad. From what I can see in the picture though, it doesn’t look all that bad, but to each his own and all that. Get a quote from a company that handles this sort of thing in your area and see whether you'll be ok to make that kind of expenditure. And remember to post pictures when you're don't with it all!
