Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Aug 06, 2008 9:39 pm Hi people, I have an old building that my grand father had willed me. I'm going to do a little remodeling and was curious as to which is usually done first. I would think the walls would be first so you don't take the chance of damaging the new floor but would like other opinions. Should you install new flooring or work on the wall repair first? Any helpful suggestions and advice would be greatly appreciated.

Paint the ceiling first then the cornices then the walls then door frames and skirting boards last.
Do the floor after all the painting done. PS: I have re-read this carefully to make sure there is no smutty innuendo - you have to watch out for deviant types on here who can read double meanings into just about anything Re: What comes first, walls or floor? 6Aug 07, 2008 10:38 am to_do_list Paula I'd start from the top and work my way down. Clarification....were are talking about home renovation?...... Sorry I answered in the wrong forum - it was the answer to something else Only kidding I meant from the roof down! Floors last - because during the painting process ladders etc are being moved around so it is best to the floors last which will also remove any scratches, spills or splatter that may happen. Steve Thank you. Do I use timber floorboards for stairs or do people use timber treads?
