Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 20, 2016 8:58 am Hi guys, I bought this house last year, its a 2 story house brick house with hardwood floorboards upstairs which have been tiles over, here is my problem. Turns out the previous owner DIY laid tiles over the boards upstairs, they are only a few years old but so far we have had to regrout the entire living room and kitchen as it kept popping out.. Now the tiles are actually moving, sometimes when you walk on them you might feel one move, then when you do the tap test you can definitely tell it has come loose. So far I have bought some tile injection glue off ebay and used that to spot repair a loose part but as soon as I fix one another one comes up.. Where does this leave me?! I am a first time home owner and the tiles looked great when we first bought the place but now the are proving to me a massive headache. Any advice will be appreciated. Re: My floor tiles keep lifting.. 2Apr 20, 2016 9:11 am As with anything prep is the key. If the previous owner has simply lifted the carpet and used ordinary tile glue straight onto the timber flooring with no sanding or correct primer or the wrong glue then your whole floor is probably going to fail. Your options are limited. Replacing all the tiles by someone who knows what they are doing is probably the only long term answer. Re: My floor tiles keep lifting.. 4Apr 20, 2016 9:18 am My concern with getting the tiles taking up is any damage to the boards by taking out all the nails from the underlay (providing the laid anything..). Is this a concern? Re: My floor tiles keep lifting.. 5Apr 20, 2016 9:39 am If you liked the look of the tiles, then I would get the existing tiles all removed and laid again - properly - by a professional. There is no recourse on the previous owner - you bought the property as is. My blog: tashandpaul.wordpress.com Re: My floor tiles keep lifting.. 6Apr 20, 2016 2:20 pm You can almost guarantee that in the course of removing the tiles that a) you will damage a lot of them, some will come up easy some may be stuck fast b) you will almost certainly damage the underlay ( as you said - if they used any ) If it were me I'd be prepared to trash both th tiles and underlay and remove everything back to the bare floorboards and start again using as TashPaul said a professional tiler.
