Something that I've found with many new buildings that I inspected as building consultant, was that the ceilings were not attached as per manufacturer's instructions, particularly if there were hips over the garage where the nogging between the bottom chords had not been done so as to give a one-way directional fixing scenario. But with most new houses with plasterboard ceilings (99% had one), nearly all showed signs of popping nail syndrome before the end of warranty... and quite a few had partially collapsed... one twice. Trouble was the painting was inadequate for the and some garages have 40% and a few with rear roller-doors have 80% floor area openable... and no heater or furnishings to absorb the moisture either. Hence the failing of the fixings in nearly all garages... just take a look at your own one. Also I advise you look out for the undulating ceiling syndrome as well - shine a torch across the surface.
