Forum DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 19, 2015 2:56 pm Hi guys, got a backyard drainage problem that I needs some tips on.All my downpipes lead into a rubble pit that keeps blocking and I have replaced it already. The block runs down from the road and there is no storm water main that I can crack into.I want to know if there is a better alternate option then a rubble pit. Cheers Re: Plumbing 2Apr 19, 2015 3:43 pm The problem with rubble pits are they don't have much capacity before the space is full. A few options are: 1. Using a proper soakwell which is a tank with holes through the sides. (see http://www.anewhouse.com.au/2014/09/soakwells/) The extra volume means that much more capacity for the initial rain giving the system more time for the water to seep away. 2. Installing a rainwater tank preferably supplying water to at least the toilets. This will meant that the water demand will tend to empty the tank between rain events leaving volume to store rainfall. 3. Combining 1 and 2 above. The Harder You Try - the Luckier You Get !
