Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Aug 26, 2014 11:58 am Hi I am building a timber carport and would just like some recommendations on timber types to use. For example, for the posts I’m considerding 100x100 Merbau or 100x100 Red Ironbark (will be in post stirrups). Similiarly, with the front and end rafters I’m also considering merbau or red ironbark (the middle rafters can just be Treated Pine). Is there any recommendation for one over the other? Or is there another timber I can use? I want that “red” timber look. Cheers! Re: Timber Carport - Advice on Timber 3Aug 28, 2014 4:56 pm As long as it is rated for external use eg treated pine, F11 hardwood etc etc then you will be fine. Depending on where you are Merbau might be more commonly available in the cities so will probably be cheaper. If you're in the country Ironbarks probably easier to get/cheaper. Stewie Versaloc is a mortarless besser block system that still needs a properly engineered footing. If you just do a 400x200 footing it will fail in time. At 17m long you need it… 1 15675 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15886 Thank you so much for the effort. We will use it to talk with builder. We also had idea of building duplex instead and seeking suggest ions. viewtopic.php?f=31&t=106744 11 13817 |
