They have also painted over the bumpy surface. Can anyone tell me how to best fix the problem? I am hoping it won't require cutting out the patch etc... Thanks in advance! I had a look at it earlier though and it's a large area (about 40cm x 40cm) and I'm worried it will turn into an even bigger mess... I guess I could try and sand it down and if that fails I could just cut around it and back block a new piece of plaster board in there - unless anyone has any more ideas? Re: Correcting an old spakfilla job gone wrong... 4Apr 23, 2014 8:00 pm Depending what product they have used some don't sand very well, especially when there painted. If it does sand back take all the high spots off then put a skim coat over the top that you can sand flat. Feather it out a couple of hundred past the original patch and you'll never know its there. Unless you can't use a trowel and it looks the same as when you started but bigger. Spakfilla is more suitable for small cracks or holes. I would personally place plaster in there with joining tape and use the appropriate joining compound. If suitable when pressing I'm sure sanding is fine. If you find its not durable, knock it out. Hope this helps!
