Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 15, 2014 11:34 am Hello, I have just recently replaced the railing on a cantilevered concrete balcony. The original balustrades went down in front of the slab with just a small space. Previous owners had a dog and over time fur and rubbish got stuck between the slab and balustrades = some rotting of the bottoms of the blaustrades and some weathering of the concrete slab. Plus lots of unsightly mildew... It's all been replaced now with the new balustrades sitting 'above' the slab. The edge of the slab is now fully exposed so things should be much better now. I want to do 2 things to finish it off; 1. Put a drip barrier in so that runoff from the balcony does not go under the slab. It has done this before and over time has got under the paint. I was thinking of something like fixing a 5mm sq section of PVC or similar to the bottom. But I dont seem to be able to source anything suitable... Any other suggestions ? 2. Paint the edge. I have filled most of the weathered areas but it is not great. The slab when laid was not flat/square and is quite wavy in places. The other challenge is that access is not great - its via a ladder over an uneven surface. My thoughts are either a flat paint or perhaps a roll on render to hide the imperfections ?? Any comments would be greatly appreciated ! david First time building 2 storey home in NSW. Below Current plan have separate balcony.
