I am hoping to have my bathroom renovation start in about a month. My quotes don't include painting, which is usually done after the rest of the work, apparently. I will have the painting done at the same time as some painting in other rooms, which will be more cost-effective.
However, the existing ceiling and cornice is painted in a gloss paint, and I would prefer the new paint to be low sheen. I assume this means quite a bit of work to sand off the gloss prior to painting and I was wondering if I could do that part of the job myself, before the bathroom is stripped out. Otherwise the painter is going to create a lot of dust over the new bathroom. I also wonder how he will reach the ceiling to sand when there will be baths, shower screens etc all in the way.
So it occurred to me to do the sanding myself, because I am less concerned about putting a ladder in the bath, for example, when the bath is going to be tossed out anyway.
Are there any tips for sanding a ceiling, to make the job less painful? Are there any primers or other products that will avoid the need to sand at all?
Appreciate any advice - thanks!
