Even hand marks will leave a brownish stain on walls.
If the stains have been put on the wall that has been painted with a flat paint then you are out of luck. Wherever you scrub you will probably leave another mark.
If the walls have been painted with a low sheen or semi-gloss paint then the advice above should get rid of the worst.

More than likely even if you do remove them you will leave big shiney patches on the wall that will stand out.
Depending on the paint colour and how dark the stain is you may be able to re roll the wall straight over the stain.
If the paint doesn't cover, use something like called stain stop. This will seal off the stain and you can then paint over the top.
