Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 21, 2013 9:31 am Hi Everyone! My partner is knocking down their house and rebuilding. I have just bought a 2bdr unit and was thinking of attempting to re-use the timer floorboards from the house in renovating the unit. Does anyone have any suggestions for doing this? Does anyone know anyone who would sand and recut the wood prior to me laying them and polishing? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Cheers Re: Re-using timber floorboards 2Apr 21, 2013 10:55 am Hi onlooker. There's no need to do anything to the boards prior to laying them at your place except to de-nail them. Depending on how the boards were installed in the first place you need to exercise some care getting the boards up so they can be de- nailed. You also need to make sure the boards have enough meat left above the tongue to allow for sanding, and that any damaged sections of tongue or groove are broken off prior to installing so you don't have any issues with them when you clamp them up. Are you removing the boards or is a demolition company doing it? The boards are actually on stumps. They are not glued down. The wood would probably be 50 years old. Not sure it will even be worth it or possible. I'd be doing it all myself with help from some friends. Might pull up a few and see what condition they are in.
