Browse Forums DIY, Home Maintenance & Repair 1 Apr 17, 2013 4:44 pm We are trying to gain access from backyard/side of house to the garage without going all the way around the front. We've been told it's a fairly simple process to cut a hole for a door in the garage wall Does anyone have any experience with this? Attached is our plan, with an arrow where we want a door. It will just be a simple wooden door 820 +/- wide. Re: Cutting a hole in a brick wall 2Apr 26, 2013 12:33 am Hi Zarli,
I am no expert, just an Electrician. But I would get a Demolition Saw (Hire a Diamond blade wet saw for the day approx. $300) and cut the width of the door. Use a mash hammer to knock the bricks out. Immediately install a Lintel (Probably available from Bunnings) above the door way. Get a door Jam and hang the door...... bought from just about anywere even bunnings. BTW, I DO NOT work for bunnings! Good Luck, Andrew Re: Cutting a hole in a brick wall 3Apr 26, 2013 8:50 am carmania Hi Zarli, I am no expert, just an Electrician. Re: Cutting a hole in a brick wall 4May 28, 2013 10:22 pm Also agree with Andrew, however, a 9in angle grinder with diamond cutter should also do the trick and wont cost $300. Cheers Eddie Re: Cutting a hole in a brick wall 5May 29, 2013 12:14 am I'd get a real good strong solid door for security reasons. I might attempt what you're planning in the future. Don't know why the heck I didn't add it to the plan in the first place.
