We have finally started the backyard and part of the decision making is trying to con my DH into respraying our colourbond fence. Everyone in our estate has got the same fence as it came with the land but its green. Everything in our backyard is being painted Dulux Monument and othe charcoal/grey tones and a green fence really doesnt go at all. Now to my problem. Someone who doesnt like me....Well doesnt know me but has made DH say no to the idea, has told him with the new colorbond fence panels, they are so smooth that to respray them colorbond monument would be impossible. But I still think that if I spray a metal primer on it then the paint, It should be right. I dont want it costing my a huge amount of $$$$, It being more work than worth it or being a half @ssed job. So please someone, help me out with tips, info, pics, what product to use, any help Thanks Forrester 43sq We have our keys (3/6/11) Now it's time to decorate (that's the fun part.lol) https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=37598 Re: Respraying 2yr old colourbond fence..Is it possible? 3Mar 27, 2013 8:49 am It seems to be a cold issue. Have asked someone at Bunning. He said any ext paint will be fine but something tells me he wasnt listening as I think he was meaning a timber fence. So can anyone help? The etch primer doesn't just coat what is underneath but really keys into it. Any decent house paint supply place or auto paint shop should be able to give you some advice here. That is my advice anyway but this Colorbond article suggests a light sand and then two coats of acrylic exterior paint. http://steelproducts.bluescopesteel.com ... e=filename Stewie Re: Respraying 2yr old colourbond fence..Is it possible? 5Mar 27, 2013 12:00 pm If everyone has the same colour fence in your estate it may pay to check if you are allowed to change the colour. When we built we were limited to the colours we could use on fencing sheds etc. Why anyone with painting queries asks at Bunnings astounds me as for the most part they wouldn't have a clue. Use a paint Trade Centre to get professional info as staff there have had training. Colourbond is very smooth and the problem is getting a 'key' for the new paint or it will peel off later. Im looking at painting much older C/B and will use industrial steel wool to rough the surface and remove any oxide. Arfur Re: Respraying 2yr old colourbond fence..Is it possible? 6Mar 29, 2013 10:54 am Thanks for the help guys. Yeah thought that a etch primer would be the thing to use. maybe spray that on then a good metal paint just to make sure all is good. We are only allowed to have the green colorbond and same as any shed that is visable. But no one in this estate has really followed the rules. Even out carport etc that has approval, isnt green. I think its more what is visable from the road. And as we will only be spraying the backyard fences, I think it shoud be ok. No need to etch or prime. We had all our fences done ( colorbond and fibre cement) the painter sprayed them all and it looks good and has stuck like the proverbial.
