I am new to this site, and after hours of searching the www trying to get somewhere, thought this forum might be a more effective tool. I am considering purchasing an antique gas oven. @ 1950's era. It is badged "New World Rangette. Radiation Ltd no. 172 Cooker". Seems the original company has changed hands a few times now, and no-one seems to stock spare parts. What I want to know is, why can't we simply replace all the bits with something "generic"? The old ovens are all fairly open, so I imagine it would be relatively simple thing to do..a bit like if I was converting from matural to LPG, or converting a wood stove to gas? Or am I way off?? Re: can an antique gas oven be repaired? 3Jun 17, 2012 5:44 pm Have you tried contacting gas appliance repairers? Adapting the old with new parts, I suspect many wont be compatible, but only an expert would know Arfur Re: can an antique gas oven be repaired? 4Jun 17, 2012 9:08 pm uncle arfur, that was the first thing I did, but was told that unless i had spare parts, they couldn't do anything. Or maybe than can, but they'd have to see the unit forst (and charge a fee, of course). Biggest problem is, I live about 1000km away from where its being sold, so checking it out is difficult. Re: can an antique gas oven be repaired? 5Jun 18, 2012 12:02 am I think the problem is your standard gas fitter can't really help because as soon as you modify it any and all approvals (gas wise) go out the window! You might get some direction from energy safe Victoria or similar in your state, but I would suspect you would need to spend money to have something new designed and approved! 2 Re: can an antique gas oven be repaired? 7Dec 03, 2012 7:11 pm Had the experience. The cost of rebuilding the new parts is exhorbitant. better to get a new oven. sorry. Hi Chippy, no there isn't, gave it a really good look through and literally opened everything and checked all edges as well. Hence the question, just hoping someone would… 2 2083 My daughter and son in law are about to start building, they are having a 600mm induction cook top and 900mm oven.
